Scratch Golf Clubs
Scratch was founded in 2003 by Ari Techner, Chad Techner Jeff McCoy, and Paul Friedrich. Jeff has been grinding golf clubs since High School and has an incredible talent for shaping golf clubs. Growing up, he worked on wedges for many of the top players in his area.
Scratch was formed to fill a void in the golf market, as nobody was making custom wedges one at a time to fit the individual player. Custom fitting became the rage in golf, but nobody was doing anything to fit the proper wedges to the players swing. Before we sold a single wedge, a year was spent on R&D testing different wedge grinds with different players swings to determine exactly what worked and why. Their proprietary grind fitting system assigns you into one of the three swing types that we identified: the Sweeper/Slider; Driver/Slider or Digger/Driver. These identified swing types and our fitting system is rooted in our extensive R&D and real world player testing.
The first product offering was the Tour Custom wedges which were handmade one at a time by Master Craftsman Jeff McCoy. Soon after, they released their Tour Custom irons to satisfy a serious demand from our existing customers. 2006 saw the release of retail JLM wedges, while retail irons were released in 2007. In 2009 they released the 1018 and 8620 wedges.
