In other words, we need to wait for almost 9 months until the four other marquee events of golf begin.
McIlroy says: “The narrative suggests that the majors are the only important thing in golf. This is a dangerous narrative – we won’t care for any other event for the other 48 weeks of the year?” The champion also thinks that the majors are spaced so closely, the fans will only care from the second week of April to the last week in July, and nothing else will really matter. McIlroy also has a suggestion about this problem: “It should be like tennis,” he says, “they manage to stay relevant throughout the year and gain more interest. I would like to see the same thing in golf.”
