
In a very dominant performance at Royal Liverpool in England, the United States team won the Walker Cup 15.5 – 10.5 on Sunday. USA won 8 of the 10 singles games on Sunday. This the highest score differential that the USA teams have won by since 1987. The best result of the day was produced by Cole Hammer, who won 6&5 over Irishman Connor Purcell.
John Augenstein, won 4&3 against Thomas Plumb taking the USA to victory. Augenstein said “I was not aware that my match was the clinching point. But it does not matter who clinches – we are a team and we won the Walker Cup together and for the United States.” Great Britain and Ireland captain Craig Watson stated that “Of course, we are disappointed. But the USA team can be proud of the achievement, I am proud of all of them too.”
